In a powerful speech that sent shockwaves through international circles, Vice President J.D. Vance took the stage at the Munich Security Conference to issue a bold warning to European leaders. Vance called out nations like Great Britain, Germany, and Sweden for their increasing suppression of free speech and targeting of religious individuals under the guise of combatting “hateful content.”
Vance Exposes Europe’s Crackdown on Religious Freedom
One of the most shocking examples cited by Vance was the recent arrest and conviction of Adam Smith-Connor, a British military veteran and father who was prosecuted for simply praying in silence near an abortion clinic in the United Kingdom. The court found him guilty and slapped him with a 9,000-euro fine—a decision that has sparked global outrage.
“And perhaps most concerning, I look to our dear friends, the United Kingdom, where the backslide away from conscience rights has placed the basic liberties of religious Brits in particular in the crosshairs,” Vance stated. “A little over two years ago, the British government charged Adam Smith-Connor, a 51-year-old physiotherapist and army veteran, with the heinous crime of standing 50 meters from an abortion clinic and silently praying for 3 minutes. Not obstructing anyone, not interacting with anyone, just silently praying on his own … Now I wish I could say that this was a fluke, a one-off crazy example of a badly written law being enacted against a single person.”
He then went on to call out Scotland’s new law banning prayer within 200 meters of abortion clinics, describing it as a disturbing example of a “thought crime” crackdown.

The U.S. Government’s Role in Censorship
Vance didn’t stop at criticizing Europe. He exposed the U.S. government’s involvement in suppressing free speech, particularly regarding C19 and vaccine-related discussions. He highlighted how social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook were pressured by the Biden administration to censor so-called “misinformation” and “disinformation”—many of which turned out to be true.
During 2020 and 2021, the Biden White House collaborated with Facebook to flag and suppress content questioning the origins of the C19 virus, even though later evidence confirmed the possibility of a lab leak in Wuhan, China.
“Our own government urged private companies to silence people who dared to utter what turned out to be an obvious truth,” Vance declared. “So I come here today not just with an observation but with an offer. And just as the Biden administration seemed desperate to silence people for speaking their minds, the Trump administration will do precisely the opposite, and I hope that we can work together on that.”

Trump’s Promise: Restoring Free Speech
Vance made it clear that under Donald Trump’s leadership, the U.S. will stand for free expression rather than silencing voices through government interference.
“In Washington, there is a new sheriff in town. And under Donald Trump’s leadership, we may disagree with your views, but we will fight to defend your right to offer it in the public square—agree or disagree.”
