According to a report by the Washington Post, Trump has privately encouraged Ramaswamy to consider the role if Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, who is responsible for appointing Vance’s replacement, offers him the position.

Ramaswamy’s Candidacy Gains Momentum
Citing anonymous sources, the Washington Post revealed that Ramaswamy has “re-emerged as a top contender” for the Senate seat. He is reportedly in “advanced discussions with GOP leaders about the role.”
Ramaswamy, a vocal Trump ally, previously withdrew from consideration for elected office in November after being nominated to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a newly proposed agency tasked with eliminating federal waste and inefficiencies.
Despite his commitment to DOGE, sources told the New York Post that Ramaswamy is “interested in the Senate seat,” with Trump expressing strong support for his potential appointment.
Ohio Governor’s Decision Pending
Under Ohio law, Governor DeWine must appoint a replacement to fill Vance’s Senate seat until a special election in November 2026 determines who will serve the remainder of the term, which ends in 2029.
“I’m looking for someone who truly understands Ohio, has experience, and is a hard worker,” DeWine told reporters last week. He confirmed that an announcement regarding the appointment would likely be made soon.
