Rep. Adam Smith Delivers Brutal Reality Check to His Own Party
In a shocking admission, Democratic Rep. Adam Smith (WA) acknowledged that his party has “failed” on major issues, including immigration, economic policies, and diversity initiatives, urging Democrats to focus on fixing their mistakes rather than just attacking former President Donald Trump.
During a candid interview on CNN’s ‘CUOMO’, Smith didn’t hold back, stressing that Democrats have lost credibility with American voters on several key policies, making it easier for Republicans to take the lead in public trust.
“My party needs to rebuild our credibility on major issues. It’s not enough to just attack Donald Trump—we have to govern effectively and fix what we got wrong,” Smith admitted.

Democrats Losing Public Trust on Immigration
The congressman’s remarks come as recent polls show a dramatic shift in voter trust, with Americans increasingly favoring Republican leadership on immigration and border security.
CNN senior data analyst Harry Enten recently revealed that public confidence in Democrats’ handling of immigration has collapsed, largely due to policies under President Joe Biden.
“We failed,” Smith confessed. “We followed far-left policies that weakened border security, ignored deportations, and opened the asylum system without concern for the volume. The Biden administration didn’t act until it was too late.”
Liberal Policies Making Housing & Economy Worse?
Smith also highlighted housing affordability as another issue where Democrats have struggled.
“We can’t build affordable housing because of overregulation and incompetent Democratic governance,” he explained. “We need to fix this. Show people we believe in opportunity and personal responsibility.”
With skyrocketing rent prices and homeownership slipping out of reach for many Americans, the congressman admitted that his own party’s restrictive policies have contributed to the crisis.
Democrats Need to Work With Republicans on Border Security
Smith urged Democrats to take a more balanced stance on immigration, opposing some of Trump’s policies while also working with Republicans to secure the U.S. border.
“We need more border security. A secure border is critical. We have to admit that the Biden administration didn’t do enough,” he said.
Even Chris Cuomo, the host of the segment, seemed skeptical that Democrats have the moral high ground to criticize Trump’s immigration policies after Biden’s handling of the crisis.
Biden’s Own Officials Praise Trump’s Immigration Strategy
Adding to the embarrassment for Democrats, Biden’s former acting ICE Director, P.J. Lechleitner, appeared on MSNBC this week, praising Trump’s immigration policies for their effectiveness and support of law enforcement agencies.
