ABC Executive’s Ties to Biden Campaign Raise Concerns Ahead of Trump-Harris Debate
The upcoming presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is already sparking controversy due to an unexpected connection that has many questioning the integrity of the event.
ABC News, the network hosting the debate on September 10, is under scrutiny following revelations of a close relationship between Dana Walden, a top executive at Disney—which owns ABC—and Vice President Harris.

The New York Times recently reported that Walden, who oversees ABC News, has been a long-time friend and supporter of Harris. Their connection dates back to 1994, and Walden, along with her husband, played a pivotal role in introducing Harris to her current husband, Doug Emhoff.
This personal connection has raised concerns about a potential conflict of interest in the organization and conduct of the debate.
Beyond personal ties, the relationship between Walden and Harris extends into the political realm. According to the Times, Walden and her husband have been consistent donors to Harris’s political campaigns since 2003. In fact, in April 2022, Harris attended a fundraiser at the Waldens’ Brentwood home, where she even credited the couple for her marriage in a light-hearted manner.
Adding another layer to the controversy, President Joe Biden appointed Walden to the President’s Export Council in February 2023. The White House praised Walden as “a business leader dedicated to creating jobs in her home state of California and beyond,” according to the Times. Walden’s $20,000 donation to the Biden-Harris re-election campaign in 2023 has further fueled discussions about potential bias.
In response to these concerns, ABC News has moved quickly to address the situation. The network insists that Walden’s responsibilities are confined to corporate matters such as staffing and budgets and do not extend to editorial decisions. “ABC News has built its longstanding reputation on journalistic integrity,” the network stated in a release. “All editorial decisions are in the hands of ABC News management and the experienced journalists and producers of ABC, who uphold the highest journalistic standards.”

Disney Entertainment, the parent company of ABC, also clarified that Walden has not hosted a fundraiser for Harris since June 2022, prior to her role overseeing the network. Despite these assurances, the optics of the situation remain complex, particularly with the added tension of an ongoing defamation lawsuit filed by Trump against ABC News.
As the debate approaches, reports have surfaced about specific requests from the Harris campaign, which have added to the intrigue. Jason Miller, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, mentioned that Harris’s team had made requests for candidates to be seated during the debate and to have notes on stage, as reported by The Post Millennial. However, the Harris campaign has denied these claims.
With the September 10 debate just around the corner, all eyes will be on ABC News to see how they manage these challenging circumstances and maintain their commitment to journalistic integrity. The stakes are incredibly high, and this first presidential debate is shaping up to be a pivotal moment in the 2024 election race.
As both candidates prepare to go head-to-head, the American public eagerly awaits what could become one of the most closely watched political events of the year.
