AOC’s Risky Move: Ex-Clinton Pollster Warns Against Challenging Schumer

Former Clinton pollster Mark Penn has issued a stark warning to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) over her rumored plan to challenge Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in the upcoming 2028 election. According to Penn, such a move could devastate the Democratic Party at a time when its approval ratings have already hit historic lows.

Deepening Divisions Within the Democratic Party

The Democratic Party has been facing growing internal conflict, particularly over the federal budget and government funding. Earlier this month, Schumer supported a continuing resolution to keep the government running—sparking outrage among progressive Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez, who saw it as a betrayal of their party’s core values.

While AOC’s progressive base is pushing for more radical change, party moderates are growing increasingly frustrated. This divide has led to speculation that Ocasio-Cortez might primary challenge Schumer—a move that Penn warns could spell disaster for the party.

Polls Show Democratic Approval Plummeting

Penn’s warning comes as new polls reveal that Democratic approval ratings are at an all-time low.

According to a CNN/SSRS poll conducted from March 6-9, the Democratic Party’s favorability has sunk to just 29%. Even more alarming, an NBC News poll shows that only 27% of Americans approve of the job Democrats are doing, placing them below lawyers, undertakers, and car salesmen in terms of public trust.

Penn, speaking on Fox News’ ‘The Story with Martha MacCallum,’ explained how the numbers reflect a shift in the party’s base:

“The left base is staying with the Democratic Party, but moderates are fleeing in droves,” he said. “If AOC actually challenges Schumer, it could finish this party off, just like the Labour Party was out of power for a decade.”

Party Infighting Reaches a Breaking Point

Democrats are currently embroiled in bitter disputes over Schumer’s handling of the Republican budget bill, which he allowed to pass in order to avoid a government shutdown. Progressives see it as a compromise with the right, while moderates argue that blocking the bill would have worsened political instability.

Meanwhile, the New York Post reports that Americans are so disillusioned with the Democratic Party that more people now believe in aliens than trust Democratic leadership.

What’s Next for the Democratic Party?

With AOC’s influence growing and Schumer’s leadership under fire, the 2028 election could be a turning point for Democrats. If Ocasio-Cortez mounts a primary challenge, it could further alienate moderates and push the party into electoral chaos.

Whether AOC heeds Penn’s warning or moves forward with her anti-establishment campaign, one thing is certain—the Democratic Party is on the brink of a major political shift.
