During Wednesday’s legislative session, Hosemann was at the podium discussing final appropriation bills when he began to slump forward. Within seconds, he collapsed to the floor, prompting an immediate call for medical assistance. The disturbing footage, which was later removed from the Legislature’s official YouTube channel, showed lawmakers scrambling to help, calling for a nurse and urging emergency responders to intervene.

A source told WJTV 12 News that Hosemann regained consciousness and was able to stand. Despite concerns, he declined hospital treatment, assuring colleagues and the public that he was stable.
“Thank you all for the kind words and prayers,” Hosemann wrote in a post on X Wednesday night.
“I was dehydrated and am feeling fine now. I am grateful for Mississippi’s phenomenal medical professionals and am ready to go back to work tomorrow. Lesson learned: Stay hydrated,” added the lieutenant governor, who was recently re-elected for a second term.
Reports from Mississippi Today confirmed that medical staff assessed Hosemann immediately after his collapse. He was seen sitting upright and later walking out of the Capitol, escorted by staff and security. Notably, he declined transport via ambulance and instead left in a government vehicle.

The Senate chamber was swiftly cleared following the incident, with proceedings put on hold. Senate President Pro Tempore Dean Kirby later resumed the session but did not provide further updates on Hosemann’s condition.
“Everything’s fine. I think he wanted to come back this afternoon, but I’ll bet he’s back in the morning,” Kirby told reporters before adjourning the Senate.
The scare has raised concerns about the health of senior lawmakers, highlighting the physical demands of political office. While Hosemann reassured the public that he is well, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of health monitoring for aging officials.
